University of Miami – Be Smoke Free Program
 
The University’s award winning smoking cessation program, I Quit with AHEC Be Smoke Free Program,” will begin offering group classes for individuals interested in quitting smoking. Classes are offered in 6-week intervals which recur every six week.

Quitting smoking can be a long and difficult process. With the aid of group classes, led by certified tobacco treatment specialist, individuals can get the support and tools necessary to become tobacco-free. This benefit is available to UM employees, students, and the community at no charge. This program is open to anyone with the desire to become smoke-free for life. University of Miami affiliates and Non-UM affiliates alike are encouraged to join us for this life-changing experience!

University of Miami Student Health Service

Medical providers at the Student Health Service are also available to offer assistance with smoking cessation. Assistance is available to all students eligible to receive care at Student Health Service, and smoking cessation aids (nicotine replacement and other medications) are offered free of charge to students currently on the UnitedHealthCare Student Health Insurance plan. Appointments can be scheduled on-line at mystudenthealth.miami.edu, please select "Smoking Cessation" as appointment reason.

The State of Florida Quit Line offers free counseling, nicotine patches or gum and more. Additional information is available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week at 1-877-U-CAN-NOW.

OFF CAMPUS RESOURCES

  • Tobacco Free U - Offers college students free on-line information, guides, and resources related to tobacco and quitting tobacco use.
  • My Last Dip - MyLastDip is a free Web-based intervention that is designed to help young smokeless tobacco users quit.
  • Kill the Can - This website offers free resources and tools to help dip, snuff, and chewing tobacco users quit. Along with useful information, it offers a support forum and a live quit chat room.
  • Become an Ex - The EX plan teaches you how to re-learn life without cigarettes in 3 steps - all geared to help make the seemingly impossible possible.
  • Freedom from Smoking® Online Program - On-line program from the American Lung Association consisting of seven modules, each containing four lessons, to assist you in quitting tobacco. Participants are also encouraged to participate in message boards to give and receive support as they go through the quit process.
  • There’s an app for that:

    · NCI QuitPal is a free smartphone app to support smokers working to become smoke-free. This
    interactive app is developed using proven quit strategies and tools to help change behavior and assist
    you with giving up smoking.

    monitor your progress, identify your smoking triggers, and upload personalized “pick me ups” and
    reminders to use during challenging times to help you successfully become and stay smokefree."
