• Hyperlipidemia, known as high cholesterol, is caused by cholesterol (plaque) build up on the walls of your blood vessels. This build up causes the vessel to narrow and limit the amount of the blood that circulates from your heart to the other organs in your body. This can increase your risk for heart disease and heart attack. However, you can lower your risk of high cholesterol through exercise, a healthy diet, and not smoking. To have your cholesterol tested, contact your physician or make an appointment at the Student Health Services here.
