    • An ankle sprain occurs when you stretch or tear a ligament in your ankle when you fall, twist, or get hit. Symptoms of a strain include swelling and bruising. Treatment often includes rest, ice, and compression to the affected area. If symptoms persist, contact your physician or make an appointment at the Student Health Services here.
